On 27-29 March I will be competing in the Jurassic Coast Challenge. This 78.6-mile race (yes you did read it right) starts at Lyme Regis and follows the rugged coastal path to StudlandBay, an total ascent of over 10,000 feet. The aim is to run, walk, crawl or otherwise move your body from start to finish within a total time of less than 24 hours.
I have always been a keen runner, but having been diagnosed with Behçet's disease early in 2008 I have found it increasingly hard to keep as fit as I used to be. I had it in mind to do a marathon at the end of 2008, but injury and illness prevented me from doing so. My hope is that this event will be a mental and moral boost for me, proving that I can at compete in a long distance event even if I'm not as fast as I used to be.
I will be raising funds for the Society, hoping to collect over £500. My fundraising page is www.justgiving.com/alexanderwilliamsmultimarathon. For information on the event, go to www.votwo.co.uk and follow the links to the Jurassic Coast Challenge.
